Philadelphia Union Homegrown midfielder Anthony Fontana has been voted by the fans as the club’s Player of the Month for March. Fontana was originally signed by the Union as a Homegrown on July 27, 2017 with his contract becoming effective on Jan. 1, 2018.
Fontana had a month to remember, as the Academy product turned heads in his MLS debut. The Delaware native was named the starter in the No. 10 slot by Head Coach Jim Curtin in the team's Home Opener on March 3 against New England Revolution. In his MLS debut, Fontana scored his first career MLS goal which proved to be the game-winner for Philadelphia, while logging 65 minutes against the Revs.
Fontana has gone on to appear in every match for Philadelphia since his debut. The midfielder came off the bench to help solidify a tough nil-nil-draw against Columbus Crew SC at Talen Energy Stadium. The Homegrown also made an appearance in the Mile High City with a late substitution against Colorado Rapids.
With appearances in every contest for Philadelphia this season and the leader in game-winning goals for the Union, Homegrown midfielder Anthony Fontana is your IBX Live Fearless March Player of the Month.
