Philadelphia Union started their home schedule hot with a 4-1 win against FC Cincinnati on Saturday night — here’s a look at the exciting victory by the numbers.
1 - The match marked Head Coach Bradley Carnell’s first home game as Philadelphia Union’s Head Coach.
"Thanks to all the supporters in the sell-out crowd at Subaru Park. Very happy with the with the way we started the game, very aggressive on the front foot. We wanted to carry on from where we left off last week and to show the fans and excite the crowd here of what we've been trying to craft over the last couple of weeks," Carnell said.
"We're on our way to creating a signature, an identity of hunger both sides of the ball, and I think we could see that on display for many moments tonight."
1 - Philadelphia Union earned their first back-to-back wins to start a season since 2011.
1 - In the 93rd minute, club-record signing Bruno Damiani scored his first Union goal.
"It's what I was looking for, I'm very happy. It's just the beginning," Damiani said.
2 - Two players earned their Union debuts on Saturday – Head Coach Bradley Carnell subbed in both Indiana Vassilev and Bruno Damiani, giving them their first minutes in Blue and Gold.
3 - Tai Baribo finished the night with three goals. With a pair of goals on Matchday 1 & a hat trick tonight on Saturday, Baribo became the fourth player in MLS history to score five goals in the first two games of a season. Saturday’s match also marked his seventh multi-goal game across all competitions.
3 - Both Quinn Sullivan and Kai Wagner lead the league in assists over the first two games. The pair, along with Vancouver Whitecaps' Jayden Nelson, each have three.
4 - With a 4-1 final score, Philadelphia Union has now started their season with back to back four-goal games. The Union also tied their record for most goals scored in a home opener, set in 2023 with a 4-1 win against Columbus Crew.
5 - Baribo became the fifth player in league history and the first in Union history to score multiple goals in each of his first two games of a season.
5 - For five Union players (Vassilev, Westfield, Makhanya, Damiani, Lukic), it was their first time playing for Philadelphia Union’s first team at Subaru Park.
8 - The Union now lead MLS with eight goals scored this season – that total surpasses their record for most goals scored in the first two games of the season
150 - Defender Jakob Glesnes made his 150th career MLS start for the Union. Glesnes has become the player in club history to reach this milestone.
