Dreams really do come true as Philadelphia Union has announced the acquisition of Macissé Diop as the club’s latest addition to its esports roster.
“We have followed Cissé’s career since eMLS launched, and we are particularly excited to grow our 2020 esports roster at a time when so many soccer fans are engaging with the sport through the FIFA20 game,” said Philadelphia Union Chief Marketing Officer Doug Vosik. “This move further shows the Union’s commitment to esports, and we can’t wait to see Cissé in action for our club soon.”
Known by his gamer tag, CisséSZN, the competitor has a deep love for the beautiful game that dates back to his childhood. He pursued competitive soccer as youngster, playing in one Senegal’s most prestigious soccer academies, Diambars FC. After he and his family decided to prioritize school over the sport, Cisse focused on the virtual pitch to quench his competitive thirst.
He’s been a Philadelphia Union fan from the start and his personal story intersects with the club’s launch into esports. Cisse first competed in 2018 for a chance to represent the Union at the inaugural eMLS Cup, but narrowly missed out when Doolsta knocked him off in the Union esports Open Tournament Final.
That did not stop Cisse from pursuing FIFA competitively. He later signed his first eMLS contract with Sporting KC. Fast forward to November 2019 and Cisse still wanted to be part of the City of Brotherly Love and returned compete in the Union Cup looking to redeem himself and gain the opportunity to represent the Union. Cisse took home the title but had to wait for his opportunity a little longer after signing of Super Bowl Champion Jay Ajayi.
Just like Philly, Cisse didn’t just sit idly on the sidelines, he continued to hone his craft on PlayStation 4. A perfect 36-0-0 competition in FIFAdelpiha presented by Subaru caught the Union’s eye once more and now he is part of a powerful eMLS duo that is Philly through and through.
Cisse will be looking to make a splash when he makes in Union debut and the club cannot wait to see it.
