Curtin | Blake is back

#ATXvPHI | Andre Blake

For the first time since Philadelphia Union's April 27th match against Real Salt Lake, Andre Blake will feature in the matchday roster, rejoining the team for their Wednesday night matchup against New England Revolution at Subaru Park.

"You can feel a little more of a buzz, a little more energy in training. A familiar voice behind them, and that gives [our team] confidence," Head Coach Jim Curtin said following Tuesday's training session at the stadium.

"He's one of our best players and we've been without him for a very long stretch, so to get him back, I think the confidence that gives not just the backline but the whole group, that you're never out of the game, is really really nice”

The three-time MLS Goalkeeper of the Year started in just four Major League Soccer games this season before undergoing meniscus surgery. After months of recovery, he's healthy and ready to bring his unparralelled play and leadership to back to the pitch.

"He's one of our leaders. He speaks so much now in the locker room," Curtin said.

"He's also a leader by example on the field, and to have him back in the group is really, really valuable. He's a guy that I owe a ton to. The success of this club in a big part is because of Andre Blake and what he's brought."
