“Jack is a young, talented player and his hard work and competitive mentality have allowed him to adapt well to Venezia’s style of play while on loan,” said Philadelphia Union Sporting Director, Ernst Tanner. “We remain committed to identifying and developing young talent through our academy, as evidenced by the club’s third Homegrown to be to be transferred to Europe in two years’ time. We are so proud of Jack and wish him the best of luck.”

The 20-year-old, who is a dual American-Dutch citizen, joined the Italian side in August 2021 following their promotion from Serie B to Serie A, the top league in Italy and one of the most prestigious leagues in Europe. De Vries was one of a group of talented MLS players Venezia added, including Americans Tanner Tessman and Gianluca Busio from FC Dallas and Sporting Kansas City respectively, and former Orlando City SC winger Nani.

Since joining Venezia FC, de Vries has primarily featured for Venezia Primavera, the U19 squad, where he has scored 14 goals and added seven assists in 23 matches.

De Vries signed a Homegrown contract with the Union that became effective on January 1, 2020. He played in four matches for the first team in 2020, making his debut in a 1-0 win over NYCFC on July 9. Prior to signing with the first team, the former Union Academy player and YSC Academy graduate played in six matches for the Union’s second team, Union II.
