Philadelphia Union announced the signing of forward Mikael Uhre as a Designated Player on Thursday.
The 27-year-old Danish striker joins the Boys in Blue after a remarkable career in the Danish Superliga and will look to continue to elevate his form when he joins Head Coach Jim Curtin's squad.
Ahead of his preseason debut next month, it's time to get familiar with the Union's latest acquisition:
Proven Goal Scorer
Uhre comes to Philadelphia from Brøndby IF with an impressive scoring resume. Last season, Uhre scored 21 goals and recorded six assists in 34 appearances (34 starts). Just in league play, Uhre was dominant with 13 goals in 22 league games. This season Uhre has scored 14 goals across 26 appearances (24 starts) and his 11 goals in 16 league games leads the league in goals. Uhre also scored goals in both the Champions League Playoff and the Group Stage of the UEFA Europa League.
Team Success
Uhre's prowess in front of goal in 2020-21 helped Brøndby IF to the Danish Superliga Championship, their first since 2004-05. The success earned the club a spot in the Champions League Playoffs where he faced off against former Union homegrown Brenden Aaronson and Red Bull Salzburg. Uhre needed just four minutes to open the scoring on Europe's biggest stage but Red Bull Salzburg advanced via a 4-2 aggregate scoreline.
Trophy Cabinet
Along with the Danish Superliga Trophy, last season saw Uhre named the league's Golden Boot winner with his 13 goals in 22 matches. He completed the Danish trophy treble when he was named the Danish Superliga Player of the Season.
A Danish First
The Designated Player will make history when he makes his Union debut in 2022. Many players have come through Philadelphia Union from all corners of the globe but Uhre will be the first Danish international to suit up for the Boys in Blue at Subaru Park.
