Philadelphia Union homegrown David Vazquez was named a finalist for U.S. Soccer's 2024 Young Male Player of the Year on Tuesday afternoon.
Vazquez was a standout for club and country this past year with the midfielder helping USA’s impressive runner-up finish at the Concacaf U-20 Championship which clinched qualification to the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup. The 18-year-old won the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer with three goals and two assists.
The midfielder from Los Angeles, California, signed with the first team as a homegrown player on April 29th and Philadelphia Union II to its best season in club history. Vazquez scored three goals and added four assists in the regular season and played every minute of the club's run to MLS NEXT Pro Eastern Conference Championship.
Fans have the opportunity to vote for all end of year awards on ussoccer.com with voting running from Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. ET through Saturday, Dec. 14 at 12:59 a.m. ET. The winners will be announced in January 2025. The fan vote will account for 15 percent of the overall vote tally, with the rest coming from National Team players, coaches, media, and other constituents.
