With a game-winning the propelled Philadelphia Union into second place in the Supporters Shield race, midfielder maestro Ilsinho has been named to the MLS Team of the Week.
Entering in a scoreless match against FC Cincinnati in the second half, the Union needed something special and supersup Ilsinho delivered. With his ability to open up play with his crafty footwork and ability to breakdown the defense, he created a few chances immediately after taking to the pitch.
In the 59th minute, Mbaizo put in a cross that was headed high into the air. Ilsinho shifted his feet and arranged his body at the top of the box and swung through the ball. The shot wasn’t entirely clean, but it struck Mekail van der Werff and skipped past Tyton to open the floodgates.
Fellow substitute Jack Elliott might not have earned a spot in the Starting XI but his set piece header and key role in a preserving the club's seventh shutout of 2020 was enough to earn a bench spot for Team of the Week.
Ilsinho becomes the eighth member of the Boys in Blue to earn a spot on the MLS Team of the Week and pushes the Union's total haul to 11 selections. Philadelphia Union continues its busy October slate against the Montreal Impact on Sunday, October 11. Kick off from Subaru Park is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on PHL17 and PhiladelphiaUnion.com
