Philadelphia Union announced today that the club will have post-game fireworks as part of its Celebrate America night at PPL Park during the July 20 match at PPL Park against the Portland Timbers. The match, presented by AT&T, will feature various initiatives to honor military members during the game, including the Tickets for Troops promotion, a letter & notebook drive, MLS Live Sweepstakes, stadium fireworks and more. To visit our Armed Forces Night page for more information, click here.
As part of the Tickets for Troops promotion, local companies and organizations can team up with the Union to donate tickets to the troops and their families. The Union are offering a special ticket package that consists of 15 of PPL Park’s best Sideline tickets for only $600. All donations of 15 or more tickets will be matched by the Union and donated on behalf of you, your company or your organization to the Veterans Tickets Foundation. Each military member will also be given a Union scarf upon arrival at PPL Park for the game.
Fans interested in donating less than 15 tickets are encouraged to visit philadelphiaunion.com/promo and use promo code TROOPS13 to purchase individual Corner or Sideline tickets that will be donated to active members of the military, veterans and their families.
The Union will team up with Liberty USO, a nonprofit that supports local troops by providing morale, welfare and recreational services, to send written letters to troops overseas. Fans will have the opportunity to send letters in three separate ways:
- Visit Toyota Plaza at PPL Park pre-game to color and create your card at the Major Molly’s Army Tent
- Send an e-letter, which the Union will print out and submit to USO
- Bring your own unsealed letters and cards to the Toyota Plaza and drop them off at Major Molly’s Army Tent
Philadelphia Union fans serving overseas can send in video messages to friends and family at PPL Park that will be displayed on the video board during the July 20 match by creating a YouTube video and emailing the link to newmedia@philadelphiaunion.com. Videos must be submitted by July 16.
Union fans with a family member who is actively serving overseas can also enter the MLS Live Sweepstakes, with a randomly-selected winner receiving a free MLS Live subscription as well as a Union gear prize pack to send to their family member overseas.
In support of children with parents who are on active duty, the Union are holding a one-subject spiral notebook drive, with a goal of collecting 300 notebooks to be donated to 100 children for school this fall. Notebooks can also be dropped off at Major Molly’s Army Tent on Toyota Plaza before the match.
A special edition Philadelphia Union scarf will also be for sale during the July 20 match, with a portion of those proceeds benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project.
Military members with valid IDs will also receive a $5 discount for tickets purchased at the box office.
The Union return home to face Chivas USA Friday, July 12 at PPL Park before the July 20 match against the Portland Timbers celebrating America and our armed forces. Both matches will feature Party on the Plaza two and a half hours before kickoff, with discounted food and drink available on the Toyota Plaza before the game.
