Philadelphia Union defender Kai Wagner's spectacular performance on Wednesday evening has earned him a place on Major League Soccer's Team of the Week.
Wagner set up the game winner, sending in a lofted right-footed cross to the far post that captain Alejandro Bedoya crushed into the net with a header at full sprint. The assist was Wagner's team-leading fourth helper of 2021 for the left back.
Wagner led the Union against NYCFC with three key passes while winning all of his defensive duels without conceding a foul. Wagner helped the Boys in Blue to their eighth league shutout with a tackle and a clearance in the win.
The Boys in Blue are back in action on Saturday night as they welcome CF Montreal to Subaru Park for Philadelphia Union Foundation Alumni Night presented by Ardent Credit Union. The night will see the return of Ray Gaddis along with other former Union players and tickets for the match still available here. Kick off for the Eastern Conference clash is set for 8 p.m. ET and can be seen on PHL17 and PhiladelphiaUnion.com.
