Philadelphia Union announced today that Jamiro Monteiro has received an international call-up for Cape Verde ahead of 2022 World Cup Qualifier matches. The midfielder is part of seven call-ups in October which include , , and . These call ups come in addition to Paxten Aaronson, Jack McGlynn and Quinn Sullivan receiving call ups to the U-20 USMNT training camp in Celaya, Mexico where they will compete in the Revelations Cup in preparation for the 2022 Concacaf U-20 Championship.
Monteiro joins the Cape Verde National Team as they continue the third round of the FIFA World Cup African Qualifiers. The midfielder last played for his national side in October for their pair of matches in the second round of qualifiers.
Monteiro has earned 14 caps for Cape Verde, four in World Cup qualifiers as well as nine in Africa Cup of Nations qualification matches and one in an International Friendly. Monteiro featured in both matches, scoring his first goal for Cape Verde in a 2-1 win against Liberia on October 7, 2021. Cape Verde will face Central African Republic at home (Nov. 13, 11:00 a.m.), then go on the road to face Nigeria (Nov. 16, 11:00 a.m.).
