Philadelphia Union defender Olivier Mbaizo has been named to the final 26-man roster for Cameroon ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Mbaizo and the The Indomitable Lions begin World Cup play on Thursday, Nov. 24 in their Group G opener against Switzerland. He is the first active Philadelphia Union player to be named to a World Cup roster while with the club.
Mbaizo earns a spot on a World Cup roster for the first time in his career. Mbaizo earned 11 senior international caps for the Indomitable Lions, his first when he made his debut as a substitute in a friendly vs. Gabon on September 6, 2016.
Mbaizo helped lead the Union to the Eastern Conference Championship playing a part in eight shutouts in 2022 during his 14 regular season starts. Mbaizo has been a member of the Union since 2018 and has made 57 career starts and earned 67 overall appearances.
