OTD 2012: Union draft Ray Gaddis

OTD_Draft_Gaddis

Today's UNIBET Day in Union history takes us back to 2012 when Philadelphia Union selected Ray Gaddis in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft held in Kansas City, Mo.

The Union didn't originally have the No. 35 overall selection, acquiring the pick 18 months earlier when the club traded defender Shavar Thomas to Sporting Kansas City in 2010. The Boys in Blue ended up with the better end of the deal as they selected Gaddis from West Virginia University.

Gaddis owns numerous franchise records including most appearances (221), starts (211) and (18,702) minutes played. While Union fans are still awaiting that first elusive Gaddis goal, the outside back has contributed at least one assist in eight of his nine MLS seasons.
