Press Release

Philadelphia Union Foundation Partners with Language Services Associates

PUF-LSA-2

Chester, Pa. (Aug. 9, 2023) — The Philadelphia Union Foundation is pleased to announce Language Services Associates, Inc. (LSA) is now a Foundation partner. Through this partnership, LSA will support the Foundation as it harnesses the power of soccer to change lives through programming that includes re-establishing high school soccer in the city of Chester, creating mini-pitches, the iAM Project and more.

“Language Services Associates has been a valuable partner to the club for more than a year, and I’m thrilled that we are now working together to support all of our Foundation programs,” said Paul Howard, Executive Director, Philadelphia Union Foundation. “I’m looking forward to connecting LSA employees to the students who are part of the iAM Project, which will bring together what the iAM Project is all about — inspiration, aspiration and mentorship.”

LSA is a global leader in full-service business-to-business interpretation, translation and American Sign Language services. This new partnership with the Philadelphia Union Foundation is a natural extension of their LSA Cares program, which supports employee and community engagement through volunteering and team building.

“Through our partnership with the Philadelphia Union, we see first-hand the amazing positive impact the Union Foundation is having on the youth in Chester,” said Fran Convery, Chief Administrative Officer, Language Services Associates. “We are thrilled to support the work the Foundation is doing, as we work together to support those who are underserved.”

LSA will play a key role in the iAM Project, which connects students from Chester Charter Scholars Academy with some of the region’s largest companies, as well as a network of inspirational speakers, mentors, universities and internships — all designed to help the students maximize their personal, academic and professional potential. LSA will lead enrichment sessions as part of the Career Assist program, which provides students in the iAM Project with real-life work experience. The company will also host Learn & Explore workshops at Subaru Park, where students will hear from LSA employees and learn about the careers available at the company.

LSA provides a full suite of language interpretation solutions to help optimize the experience of individuals with limited proficiency in English. The company has more than 7,000 of the highest-quality interpreters and translators who support more than 230 languages. It serves customers across industries, including healthcare, call centers, finance and banking, government, legal, conference and employee engagement, sports, and more.

In addition to LSA, the iAM Project is supported through partnerships with Bimbo Bakeries USA, The Boeing Company, the Durant Family Foundation, Lincoln Financial Group, Neumann University and WSFS Bank.

About the Philadelphia Union Foundation

The Philadelphia Union Foundation has been and, will always be, an agent of change for the underserved. The Foundation builds safe spaces to play soccer for families throughout Philadelphia, provides innovative educational initiatives and a professional soccer infrastructure for high school students in Chester; and is developing a pioneering mental fitness program to support young players, parents and coaches across the Delaware Valley. In 2019, the Foundation brought soccer back to the high school students of Chester for the first time in 30 years. In 2020, during the worst of the pandemic, it created its Fight For Philly initiative, providing support for frontline workers and the most vulnerable in society. In 2021, the Foundation opened the first of 15 mini-pitches to be built in inner-city Philadelphia. Later that same year, it launched its iAM Project — a transformational career-readiness program for the young men and women of Chester.

New for 2023, the Foundation will launch an innovative mental health awareness and education program for our teen soccer players in the region, will unveil an expanded, philanthropically funded, no-cost soccer program in Chester and fund paid work experiences and a mentorship program for our iAM Project scholars. These projects mark a realization of the Foundation’s commitment to leveraging the power of soccer to create opportunities and to transform lives.
