Philadelphia Union's trio of representatives at the MLS All-Star Game presented by Target all were on the pitch as they helped MLS to a 2-1 win over the Liga MX All Stars on Wednesday night in Minnesota.
Goalkeeper Andre Blake was tabbed as the starter by Minnesota United Head Coach Adrian Heath, becoming the second non-American goalkeeper to start multiple MLS All-Star Games. Blake played the first 32 minutes of the contest and made one save during which MLS took an early 1-0 lead after a Carlos Vela goal in the third minute. Blake then handed off the spot between the posts to Minnesota United's Dayne St. Clair who was named the game's MVP with four saves.
Defenders Kai Wagner and Jakob Glesnes were brought on at halftime to hold on to the one-goal lead from the first half. Glesnes was involved in four defensive duels as Liga MX fought to get on level terms while Wagner continued his impressive form of passing with a perfect 100% stat line along with a duel.
The trio now turn their focus to league play as Philadelphia Union hosts Chicago Fire FC on Saturday, August 12th. The Boys in Blue look to avenge their loss earlier in the season to the Fire with a packed Subaru Park for Military Appreciation Night presented by Crozer Health. Kick off is set for 7:30 p.m. ET with coverage on PHL17 and PhiladelphiaUnion.com.
