Philadelphia Union II heads on the road this weekend in search of its first victory of the season as they travel west to face off against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
Union II enter the match after a strong start at Hartford Athletic that saw the young squad jump out to a 2-0 start with goals from Yomi Scintu and Axel Picazo but the veteran Hartford side fought back to claim a 3-2 victory. Union II will be forced to turn the reigns over to members of the Union Academy this weekend after injuries have forced Head Coach Sven Gartung into possibly starting the youngest lineup in club history on Saturday night. Despite the slow start to the season, Gartung said he continues to see improvement each training session and match and he'll expect the same against a Pittsburgh side defeated them just a few weeks ago.
Since the Riverhounds 6-0 victory against Union II, Bob Lilley's side has dropped both matches in heartbreaking fashions. First what looked like a scoreless draw turned into a 97th minute winner for Indy Eleven only to be followed up by a 95th minute penalty kick winner by New York Red Bulls II last Saturday. With those dropped points the Riverhounds find themselves three points out of first place in Group F and tied with Red Bulls II with six points.
The two Keystone State rivals will face off at Highmark Stadium in a closed door match on Saturday, August 1st. Kick off is set for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
