Philadelphia Union II Announce Roster Moves Ahead of 2021 Season

CHESTER, Pa. (December 18, 2020) – Philadelphia Union II today announced roster updates following the completion of the 2020 season. With their departure from USL Championship League, the club is currently working closely with Major League Soccer on next year’s competition format.

Ahead of the 2021 season, Union II has released or declined the options of the following players: Saed Diaz, Jamoi Topey, David Rabadan, Steve Kingue, Issa Rayyan, Yomi Scintu, and Zach Zandi.

All other contracted players are set to return with Union II for 2021. Additionally, Paxten Aaronson, Nathan Harriel, Jack McGlynn, Brandan Craig and Quinn Sullivan, who featured for Philadelphia Union’s USL side last season, will all join the Union on homegrown contracts effective January 1, 2021.

“Union II will continue to prioritize competition and player development on their pathway to the pros,” said Sporting Director Ernst Tanner. “As we continue to remain focused on investing in and developing our academy players, the returning and upcoming players on Union II will benefit greatly from a competition format that allows for a streamlined approach and strategy in a completed infrastructure.”

Union II concluded their 2020 campaign on October 3. The club continued to be a key link between the Union and its academy, with five Homegrown players that signed 2021 first team contracts earning significant minutes with Union II over the course of the season. The Union organization has now signed a total of 17 Homegrowns to first team contracts.
