What is SheBelieves?
Conceived and developed by the U.S. Women’s National Team players, SheBelieves is a movement to inspire girls and young women and encourage them to accomplish their goals and dreams, athletic or otherwise. The campaign was originally launched in the run-up to the 2015 Women’s World Cup but has since evolved and grown into a special bond between the team and its fans, taking its powerful message of empowerment and believing in yourself into communities across the nation.
As one of the most popular women’s teams in the United States, the WNT is the prime example that dreams are attainable if you set your mind to it and go after what you want. Through dedication, teamwork, perseverance and success, the players in the U.S. team inspire new generations of young girls and women to strive for more. They inspire them to believe.
History of SheBelieves Cup
The SheBelieves Cup was founded in 2016 and saw the United States claim the inaugural championship. Taking place annually, the initial event featured the most prominent women’s soccer teams in the world as the U.S. women faced off against Germany, England and France. In 2017, France won the title but last year the U.S. reclaimed the championship. The three tournaments have brought live women’s soccer to numerous parts of the United States, with Talen Energy Stadium welcoming the USWNT in 2017. When the tournament returns next year, Chester will become part of a select few cities to host multiple SheBelieves contests.
New for 2019, the SheBelieves Cup will see two countries making their first appearance in the tournament, with Brazil and Japan replacing Germany and France. The 2019 edition also will serve as the kick off for the USWNT’s “Countdown to the Cup” as they prepare for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup that kicks on next summer in France.
SheBelieves Across the Country
Following the USA’s championship run at the 2015 Women’s World Cup, the team embarked in a 10-city Victory Tour where players met with several women in various professions at numerous locales across the country to chat about being leaders, advocates, game-changers and role-models. Ranging from entrepreneurs to firefighters, and chefs to park rangers, these women showed that despite all being so different, the common denominators of hard work and discipline led them all to success in their own fields.
