U.S. downs Panama in final Gold Cup group contest

The United States finished Concacaf Gold Cup group play in winning fashion with a 1-0 victory over Panama in Kansas City.

While both teams had already claimed their tickets to Philadelphia for the quarterfinals, the top spot of the group was on the line. After trotting out the same lineup for each of the previous two matches, U.S. head coach Gregg Berhalter rotated his entire starting XI. While it took some time for the club to settle into the contest, veteran forward Jozy Altidore made the most of a half chance in the 66th minute with a beautiful bicycle goal. Goalkeeper Sean Johnson had an easy night in goal, needing to make only one save in the shutout performance.

The United States will square off against Curacao in Philadelphia on Sunday, June 30 at 8:30 p.m. ET. Union goalkeeper Andre Blake will lead Jamaica against Panama at 5 p.m. in the city of brotherly love. Both matches will take place at the Linc.
