VAR to be in place for 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Quarterfinals
Miami, FL – The FIFA certification required for Concacaf to implement Video assistant referees (VAR) has been processed faster than anticipated. For this reason, Concacaf can now confirm that the technology will be used for the 2021 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League (SCCL) Quarterfinal stage and for the remainder of the competition.
Tonight’s Quarterfinal first leg match between Atlanta United FC and Philadelphia Union will be the first match in an official Concacaf competition to include VAR. It will subsequently be used for all Quarterfinal, Semifinal and Final matches throughout the 2021 SCCL.
As previously announced, Concacaf will also use VAR in the Concacaf Nations League Finals (June 3-6, details here) and the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup (July 2 – August 1, details here).
