Career Summary
The Union selected Amobi Okugo from UCLA with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft after earning Pac-10 Freshman of the Year honors in 2009.<br>
<br>
<strong>2014: </strong>Okugo finished second on the team in games played (32) and games started (31). He scored two goals and had two assists. While primarily playing center back at the beginning of the year, Okugo help shutout Chivas USA on May 31 in a 3-0 win and was named to the MLS Team of the Week by MLSSoccer.com. He switched to a more natural role of defensive midfielder when then-interim manager Jim Curtin took over in June and played there throughout the rest of the season. He broke a scoreless tie in the 47th minute during the team’s win over FC Dallas in the U.S. Open Cup semifinals. He also scored a dramatic late goal against Chicago on Oct. 2. The year-end MLSSoccer.com rankings placed Okugo as the No. 13 player under the age of 24.<br>

<strong>2013:</strong> Played and started 32 games, logging 2879 minutes. He scored three goals and three assists. He scored and assisted against FC Dallas on June 29, 2013 to tie.<br>

<strong>2012:</strong> Played in 27 games starting in 24 logging 2230 minutes. Amobi proved to be a versatile player, playing several games at both midfield and defender. He recorded his first MLS assist on September 23 during the Union’s 3-1 victory over the Houston Dynamo.<br>

<strong>2011</strong>: Started in 10 of 15 matches played for the Union for a total of 811 minutes…Took 12 shots…Saw action in seven Reserve League games (D.C. United 7/3; New England 7/18, 9/8; New York 8/15; Columbus 8/21, 9/18; Toronto 10/16), starting all in which he played. <br>

<strong>2010:</strong> Made professional debut on March 25 as a substitute in the team’s inaugural game at Seattle ... started first game on June 10, 2010, a 2-0 loss to Kansas City. <br>

<strong>2009:</strong> Generation adidas signee … Earned Pac-10 Freshman of the Year honors ... Also received second-team All-Pac-10 acclaim ... Consensus All-Freshman selection nationally ... Started in all 20 games for UCLA, totaling 1744 minutes, third-most on the squad ... Recorded two assists (against UC Davis and vs. Oregon State) ...
