CHESTER, Pa. (August 1, 2019) – Bethlehem Steel FC announced today that the club has acquired goalkeeper Todd Morton from Real Monarchs in exchange for an undisclosed transfer fee. A 23-year-old goalkeeper from West Chester, Pa., Morton becomes the 15th player on Steel FC’s 2019 roster.

“We are excited to complete Todd’s transfer to Steel,” said Union Sporting Director Ernst Tanner. “This move allows us to further the development of another Philadelphia-area product, as well as bolster our USL goalkeeping roster for the remainder of the season.”

Morton joins Steel FC from Real Monarchs of USL Championship’s Western Conference. The West Chester, Pa. native joined the Monarchs in February of this year and has yet to appear for the Real Salt Lake-affiliated club. He joins Samir Badr and Matt Perrella as the only goalkeepers signed to Steel FC’s roster since the club’s modern-era founding in 2016.

Morton attended the University of Delaware where he played four seasons of NCAA soccer from 2015-2018 after transferring from University of Maryland at Baltimore County following his freshman year. Over his four years at UD, the goalkeeper played 65 matches, made 226 saves and posted a record of 29-28-6. Morton had a goals-against average of 1.22, a .741 save percentage and kept 17 clean sheets in his collegiate career. Morton’s brother, Kyle Morton, currently plays for the Steel’s in-state rivals Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC.
