CHESTER, Pa. (August 13, 2019) – After making seven saves and getting a clean sheet against MLS-bound Nashville SC, Bethlehem Steel FC goalkeeper Todd Morton was named to the USL Championship Team of the Week for Week 23.
The accolade marks the first time that Morton has earned the honor for the club and the third time in 2019 that a goalkeeper has been named to USL Championship Team of the Week while playing for the Steel. The two previous instances involved former Philadelphia Union Academy goalkeeper Tomás Romero. All seven of Morton’s saves were made in the second half of Steel FC’s match at Nashville.
The West Chester, Pa. native is a recent addition to the Steel, joining the club before their home match against Hartford Athletic (August 1) on a transfer from USL Championship Western Conference side Real Monarchs. Morton has started in two matches so far for Pennsylvania side and has made a total of 15 saves in addition to his first clean sheet over the weekend.
Bethlehem Steel FC is off this weekend before returning to Talen Energy Stadium to host Birmingham Legion FC on Sunday, August 25 at 6:00 p.m. ET. Tickets are available here, with the match set to be broadcast on ESPN+.
