Fresh off being named MLS NEXT Pro Team of the Month, Philadelphia Union II returns to Subaru Park on Sunday evening as they host Columbus Crew 2 with the action on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
Union II went unbeaten in May with a perfect 3-0-0 slate and during those three wins racked up an impressive 10-2 scoreline from seven different goalscorers. The Boys in Blue are coming off a 5-1 rout of rivals of New York Red Bulls II with David Vazquez and Markus Anderson scoring a brace with Vazquez also earning MLS NEXT Pro Goal of the Matchweek for his free kick goal in the second half. Sitting at the top of the table as June approaches, Union II is making the most of their current roster which could see some changes between the FIFA International window for which regular contributors Jamir Berdecio and Vazquez have been summoned but also the natural flow of league's youngest roster with MLS NEXT Playoffs looming along with graduation.
The inaugural MLS NEXT Pro champions have had a mixed start to their third season with Crew 2 having earned 15 points in 10 matches. Columbus is coming in off a 2-1 loss to Chicago Fire II despite scoring first in the match. Owen Presthus found the back of the net in the fifht minute but Chicago regained momented with a conversion from the penalty spot right before halftime. With momentum on their side, the winning came in the 53rd minute to see the Crew suffer their second loss of May. Like Union II, Crew 2 approach each contest with a team mentality with 10 different players having scored so far. Forwards Chase Adams and Brent Adu-Gyamfi lead the way with three goals each.
