Philadelphia Union II continues its hectic September slate with a road trip north to face off against the rival New York Red Bulls on Wednesday evening. Kick off from MSU Soccer Park is set for 5 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Union II enters the midweek match after going toe to toe with Eastern Conference power Tampa Bay Rowdies on the road before falling by a 2-0 margin. Union II were pinned deep but pressed energetically, keeping the Rowdies from clean looks at goal. Defender Brandan Craig cleared one shot off the line and Mitchell Budler pawed another good effort away during a strong effort.
The rivalry renews for the third time in 2020 with Union II taking the last contest in a thrilling fashion last time against Red Bulls II. Academy forward Patrick Bohui netted the fastest goal in club history needing only 21 seconds to find the back of the net but Red Bulls fought back with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead. Future Union homegrown Jack McGlynn took over the match scoring his first professional goal just before the halftime whistle and then delivered by perfectly timed passed to Jack Jasinski for the game winner in the second half.
Red Bulls II finds itself in desperate for three points as they sit 10 points behind Hartford Athletic for the second automatic playoff spot in Group F. The Jersey side has dropped four of its last five matches with their only win coming via a 3-2 margin against Loudoun United FC.
