Philadelphia Union II continued its unbeaten form in MLS NEXT Pro with a thrilling penalty kick victory against Inter Miami CF II on Tuesday evening at DRV PNK Stadium. Led by goals from Philadelphia Union homegrowns Paxten Aaronson and Jack McGlynn, who each notched a goal to support midfielder prospect Boubacar Diallo's big strike, Union II earned a 3-3 draw in regulation. Matt Freese was huge on penalty kicks, helping the club prevail on penalties to remain unbeaten in 2022.
Union II’s first goal came in the second minute of first-half stoppage time when Aaronson scored on a right footed shot from the center of the box off Brandan Craig's corner kick. Aaronson then drew a foul in the penalty area in the 66th minute and Jack McGlynn doubled the lead from the spot with a shot to the top left corner.
After intercepting a pass from the goalkeeper, Brandan Craig recorded his second assist of the match on a Boubacar Diallo goal in the 88th minute. At the end of regulation, Union II and Inter Miami CF II remained tied at 3-3. Boubacar Diallo, Jack McGlynn, and Paxten Aaronson all scored in the penalty shoot out. Matt Freese made a key save in penalty kicks to set up fellow MLS-teammate Cole Turner who scored the game-winning penalty.
