Philadelphia Union II looks conclude its play at Subaru Park on a high note Wednesday evening as it hosts Hartford Athletic. Kick off from Chester is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Union II comes into the contest off a thrilling contest at New York Red Bull II that ended with the club’s rival claiming a 5-4 victory. Future Union homegrown Jack McGlynn was awarded for his performance with his second appearance on the USL Championship Team of the Week with a pair of goals. Union Academy standouts also played huge roles in the contest with Danny Flores scoring his first goal while Caden Stafford added two assists in the road match.
Wednesday night’s match will be the third time in four matches that these two sides have faced off with the results improving each contest for the Boys in Blue. After dropping a home contest 3-0 to Hartford that secured the Connecticut club’s first USL Cup Playoff appearance, Union II rallied back for a 1-1 draw at Dillon Stadium last Wednesday. McGlynn played the role of hero in the contest as well, scoring the tying goal in the second half to pull out a second road result.
Hartford finds itself in a tight battle with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds for the top spot in Group F and a home playoff contest. The two sides enter the final week of the regular season tied on points per game with Wednesday night’s match being Hartford Athletic’s game in hand. Expect Radhi Jaidi’s veteran club to come out fast to put themselves ahead early to control the contest.
