Ahead of the club's return to the pitch against Atlanta United FC on Sunday afternoon, Philadelphia Union Head Coach Jim Curtin provided an update on the status of the squad.
Jose Martinez
“Jose remains away and he won’t partake in the game as he’s with Venezuela for Copa America.”
Daniel Gazdag
“[Daniel] Gazdag gets in on Saturday and we will have some tests and go through our assessment of where he’s at. We are hoping it’s not too severe and that he’ll be back very quickly.”
Jack de Vries
“Jack de Vries remains in concussion protocol. It’s tough because we are at the mercy of when they come in and test him and where he was at with his baseline to now and there hasn’t been much improvement. We are at the mercy of the test and we take head injuries very seriously so you feel for the kid and he’d rather be out there training but its been a lot of time on the bike training to maintain fitness. We are concerned as well but he’s in good hands with our medical staff in training to get him back as quickly as possible.”
Ilsinho
“Ilsinho had his surgery and is progressing very well. He’s out on the field right now but no contact yet but he is out on the field and I’d say a bit ahead of schedule and is able to run which is encouraging to see. It puts a smile on my face to get that weapon back and add that to the group in the coming weeks. It is still a ways off but its been encouraging to have him at training.”
