Ahead of the club's road match at Chicago Fire FC on Saturday night, Philadelphia Union Head Coach Jim Curtin provided an update on the status of the squad.
Kai Wagner
“Kai is getting an MRI and it is precautionary. If you talk to Kai, he doesn't think he re-injuried it but that it just tightened up. Based on the sports science data shows he put a lot of running into that first half and I think it tightened up on him. I don't think there was any further damage but we'll be cautious with him getting a scan done and we'll see how it comes back."
Damion Lowe
"I wish it was 100% clear. Just to go all the way back to the day before the game in Mexico, he was really only on the trip get his rehab and get his treatment but he made quicker strides then we thought which is why we put him on the bench. Would I have liked to have had him help us against Quiñones? Sure because he did such a great job in the first leg. It would have been risking a lot though because he had not trained at all going into that match. We withheld him and he worked out yesterday and trained with a smaller group of the players that didn't play the bulk of the minutes. He still doesn't feel 100% so we have to be smart with how we manage that. We'll see if he can go from the start or if its as a reserve because he strengthens our team. We do have a window where after we get through this gauntlet of games in Chicago, we have a stretch where its a full week where we can rest and recover and get going."
