In the midst of a busy August stretch that continues Wednesday night against Toronto FC, Philadelphia Union Head Coach Jim Curtin provided an update on the status of the squad on Tuesday afternoon.
Anthony Fontana and Jack de Vries
“I wish I had positive news but Jack de Vries has been out for almost five months now with a concussion. The heading of the ball is the last step with the training staff and neither of them is ready to do that yet. I just spoke with them literally 10 seconds ago and that was the same thing they said that they don’t feel 100% to do the heading portion of the final clearance. They’ve trained for weeks but now it’s back to not cleared with both Anthony and Jack.
It’s tough and it makes us that much more thin because both would be getting minutes at this time. We are thin and can use every body but they will not be available until they pass that. I don’t know the timeline or anything like that but that last step is passing the heading test and neither has attempted it yet so we’re stuck.”
