Philadelphia Union homegrown defender Nathan Harriel was named to Major League Soccer’s Team of the Week bench for Week 3, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
The homegrown turned in an impressive 90 minute shift against the San Jose Earthquakes as the Union picked up a 2-0 win for best start in club history. Playing in blistery cold weather at Subaru Park, the right back won 12 duels and added five tackles plus four interceptions for the Union's first shutout of the 2022 campaign. Harriel also showed off his aerial abilities with three duels won in the air and nearly notched his first MLS goal if not for an impressive stop by the Quakes keeper.
The unbeaten Philadelphia Union now turn their attention with an early season showdown against the defending MLS Cup Champions, New York City FC. The Union look to avenge their season-ending loss to NYCFC from the Eastern Conference Final on Saturday, March 19th. Kick off from Yankee Stadium is set for 1 p.m. ET with coverage on 6abc and PhiladelphiaUnion.com.
