After going viral with a memorable first goal, Philadelphia Union midfielder Jose Martinez has been selected for the MLS Team of the Matchday.
The Venezuelan wizard tee'd up a blast in the 90th minute to help the Union nab a road draw at Orlando City SC on Wednesday night, unleashing a Brujo blast that created a tremor in the Delaware Valley. Union fans had been waiting for four years for Martinez to fire a long-range shot into the back of the net and on his 86th shot of his Union career it went in for the game-tying goal that made it 2-2.
Martinez's honor for Matchday 20 makes him the seventh different member from Philadelphia Union to earn MLS Team of the Matchday accolades joining Julian Carranza (Matchday 1, 15, 17), Daniel Gazdag (Matchday 1, 8), Jakob Glesnes (Matchday 6), Mikeal Uhre (Matchday 9), Damion Lowe (Matchday 11) and Kai Wagner (Matchday 12).
Carranza and the rest of the Boys in Blue return to Subaru Park for the final time in June as they welcome Inter Miami CF on Saturday, June 24th, for Unity Night presented by WSFS Bank. Kick off is set for 7:30PM ET with tickets extremely limited for the contest. Fans unable to secure a seat can catch the contest with MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
