Philadelphia Union midfielder Jamiro Monteiro was named to Major League Soccer’s Team of the Week bench for Week 5, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
Monteiro played the primary assist on the Union’s game-winning goal against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, hitting Cory Burke in stride in the 9th minute. Monteiro led the team with four key passes on the night and completed 79% of his passes against the pressing Red Bulls. On the defensive side, Monteiro had three tackles and an interception.
Philadelphia Union return to action on Sunday night as they travel down I-95 for a showdown against D.C. United. Kick off from Audi Field is set for 7 p.m. ET and will be shown on PHL17 as well on PhiladelphiaUnion.com.
