With September being Kick Childhood Cancer Month across Major League Soccer, the Subaru Love Promise Playmaker will turn its focus to telling to stories of those families who are or have battled the disease. Ahead of Philadelphia Union's neutral site contest against the Montreal Impact, we're proud to honor and Maddie Harris.
Maddie is only 11 but is diagnosed with a grade 3 brain stem glioma. In the beginning, the doctors weren’t worried that it was a form of cancer. However as it grew, Maddie had a surgery that confirmed that it was cancerous. In November 2018, she began chemotherapy and has been through many rounds of chemo and began radiation in November 2019. Her tumor has continued to shrink during the process and is currently undergoing more chemotherapy with hopes it will completely disappear.
Throughout all of this, Maddie has continued to stay positive. She is currently in 6th grade and has an all “A” average in school. She loves to dance and hang out with her friends and her dog, Benji. She is a role model to her friends and family as she continues to battle all of this.
