As the U17s and U15s were battling it out for playoff spots at MLS NEXT Flex in Boyds, Md., Philadelphia Union Academy’s U14 and U13 squads were able to get home wins over Bethesda SC at YSC Sports in Wayne, Pa.
The 14s, who drew their last matchup at PDA on May 7, were able to get on the scoresheet in the first half through some perfect execution on a set piece play. After being able to win a corner kick, the delivery was able to find the head of an attacking player, who found the back off the net to take the lead heading into halftime. As the match was heading towards the final stretch, the Baby Snakes were able to add two more goals to seal the three points. Phil Karn’s side could be satisfied with not only executing their offensive gameplan to near perfection but were also able to keep their first clean sheet since their 2-0 victory at Alexandria SC on April 29.
Meanwhile, the 13s, who have been on a scoring tear in recent matches, were dominate in a 5-1 victory over Bethesda SC. Right out of the gate, the squad was able to score four unanswered through some impressive play in the final third. However, they conceded a goal in the later stages of the first half, their first since their 2-1 at Springfield SYC on April 16. However, Willy Topp’s side was relentless and played until the final whistle was blown, notching a fifth goal in the second half. The Baby Snakes have now scored an eye-opening 34 goals over a six-game span.
While the squads can celebrate getting an important three points at home, they prepare to host Alexandria on May 20. The 14s will kick off at 10 a.m. ET while the 13s follow up at 12 p.m. ET.
