It's the a pair passes from Monteiro vs. Kai's kick that will battle it out for the Primepoint Assist of May that will be determined by the Union faithful.
Monteiro's first of two nominations came at Subaru Park with the midfielder setting up the game-winner against the rival Red Bulls. On the counter attack, the Designated Player coolly slotted a pass to Cory Burke streaking down the left side of the penalty box. At full sprint, the Jamaican entered a hard slide and used his momentum to lift the ball past former Union goalkeeper Carlos Coronel and into the net.
Kai Wagner's nomination came in the Union's last match against the Portland Timbers. Just like off the pitch, Wagner and Kacper Przybylko connected in the 26th minute after Santos was taken down just outside the box. Wagner waved off Monteiro so he could chip a looping ball over the Timbers’ defense. The offsides trap couldn’t stop Przybylko as he timed his run to perfection to head home his eighth goal across all competitions.
The final nomination for Monteiro came on the road at Chicago Fire FC. Off an Olivier Mbaizo’s throw from the right was headed into Monteiro’s path by Burke, and the midfielder returned the favor with a delicious half-volley to the top of the six-yard box. Burke rearranged his feet and pummeled a left-footed shot past Bobby Shuttleworth’s left shoulder.
