CHESTER, Pa. (July 20, 2023) – Philadelphia Union II announced today that they have signed Philadelphia Union Academy product Neil Pierre to an MLS NEXT Pro professional contract.
The 15-year-old defender will be added to Union II’s active roster immediately, becoming the club’s third academy player to be signed to an MLS NEXT Pro professional contract. Pierre is the younger brother of current Philadelphia Union first team player, and Union II's inaugural signing, Nelson Pierre.
“Neil has the potential to be a high ceiling defender, proving to have remarkable talent already at his young age,” said Philadelphia Union II Head Coach, Marlon LeBlanc. “His ability to handle pressure and remain composed when isolated will make him a valuable asset to this team. We’re excited to continue his development as he takes this important step in his professional career.”
Pierre, 15, helped the Philadelphia Union U17s win the 2023 Generations adidas Cup in Bradenton, Florida on April 9, 2023, keeping a clean sheet in the final match against FC Dallas. Following the 2023 Generations adidas Cup victory, Pierre was called up to the U16 United States Men's Youth National Team to play in the International Dream Cup in May. Though the U17s did not advance past the Round of 16 of the MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs, his performance in the tournament earned him a spot on the 2023 MLS NEXT All-Star Game roster.
