With the historic first weekend of MLS NEXT Pro contests now in the past, the league has released its Power Rankings with Philadelphia Union II coming in at No. 3.
Union II kicked off its season with a dominating 2-0 win over FC Cincinnati 2 at Subaru Park on Sunday afternoon. Midfielder Carlos Paternina needed just four minutes to put the Boys in Blue ahead after a pass from Chris Donovan on the counter attack. In the second half it was a pair of MLS teammates combining to double Union II's advantage as Cole Turner intercepted a pass near the midfield stripe and threaded a long pass to Jesus Bueno. The Venezuelan blasted a shot from inside the box that was just too much for the keeper despite getting a glove on shot.
Union II hits the first road for the first time in 2022 as they make the trip south to face off against Inter Miami II. The MLS second team debuted at the No. 4 spot in the rankings after their own 2-0 win, defeating Columbus Crew 2 at home. Union II takes on Inter Miami II on Sunday, April 3rd with kick off set for 6 p.m. ET.
