Philadelphia Union II looks to keep its unbeaten start to 2024 going as they hit the road to take on Atlanta United 2 on Monday night. Don't miss the battle with action free on MLSNEXTPro.com starting at 7:30PM ET.
Union II extended its unbeaten streak to four with a penalty kick shootout win over Orlando City B on Thursday afternoon at Subaru Park. Forward Sal Olivas notched his second goal of the season early in the match, redirecting a cross from Frank Westfield in the 11th minute to put the Boys in Blue ahead early. Orlando City B struck back before halftime to see the match deadlocked at 1-1 where the game would finish. As with all MLS NEXT Pro regular season contests, the match headed to kicks from the penalty spot where both sides combined for 13 consecutive makes before Union II goalkeeper Andrew Rick made a stop in the seventh round.
While Union II have played four matches thus far, Monday night's battle will be just the third for Atlanta and its first since March 24th. Atlanta opened its season with a 3-2 home loss to Orlando City B which saw Javier Armas and Efrain Morales find the back of the net. One week later in front of their home crowd, ATL had an offensive outburst to defeat Carolina Core by a 4-0 margin. Luke Brennan was the star with a brace while Armas collected his second goal in as many matches. Goalkeeper John Berner was big in net as well, making six saves to earn the first clean sheet of the year.
