Philadelphia Union II continued play in MLS NEXT Pro with a 1-0 win against Orlando City B on Monday night at Subaru Park. Paxten Aaronson scored his second career MLS NEXT Pro goal and Matt Freese recorded his second clean sheet of the season to help earn a point for Union II.
The first half of play was dominated by Union II, despite the hosts controlling possession for less than half of the opening 45 minutes. Union II outshot Orlando 11 to two, but couldn’t connect for a goal.
Union II then broke through for a goal in the 51st minute on a Paxten Aaronson strike from very close range to the bottom right corner.
Goalkeeper Matt Freese recorded two saves to earn his second clean sheet of the season. Union II outshot Orlando 24 to nine, setting the season high for total shots per game. With the win, Union II are now in second place in the Eastern Conference with 15 points.
