During the Union's matchup against Real Salt Lake Saturday for Military Appreciation Night, Sergeant Caitlyn Maxwell and Private First Class Justin Glover received complimentary tattoos courtesy of Philadelphia Union by Bonedaddy's.
Sergeant Maxwell joined the United States Marine Corps after joining ROTC in high school. She is currently active and stationed in Ridley Park, PA.
When Sergeant Maxwell found out she was chosen as one of the recipients of a tattoo on Military Appreciation Night she said she was excited because she didn't think that she would be chosen.
"I actually went and told everyone at work and they were all upset that I didn't tell them to sign up for it," Sergeant Maxwell said.
Private First Class Glover also joined the Marine Corps to protect and serve both foreign and domestically. He's currently on reserve but is preparing to be deployed in July.
Private First Class Glover was nominated by his sister for the tattoo. When he found out he was one of the recipients, he felt honored because he has been a Union season ticket holder.
"For them to give back, I felt that was really nice that they appreciated my service," Private First Class Glover said.
The tattoo he had inked Saturday was the Marine Corps logo comprised of the eagle, globe and anchor and that it represents the Corps service to air, land and sea.
Bonedaddy's tattoo artist Nate Cook felt the inking of the service members was both exciting and cool.
"Being able to tattoo military people, its a real honor," Cook said. "Best people to tattoo."
Sergeant Maxwell and Private First Class Glover agree that the experience of receiving a tattoo during a live soccer match is incomparable to a tattoo parlor. The atmosphere was relaxed, which allowed them to focus on other things, rather than listen to the constant vibration of the needle.
The Union thanks Sergeant Maxwell and Private First Class Glover for sacrificing their lives every day to defend our country.
