Jamiro Monteiro receives International Call-Ups
Monteiro joins Cape Verde National ahead of Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers
CHESTER, Pa. (March 22, 2021) – Philadelphia Union today announced that Jamiro Monteiro has received international call-up from the Cape Verde Men’s National Team ahead of the upcoming FIFA international window.
Monteiro’s call-up is one of two this international window with Olivier Mbaizo joining the Cameroon Men’s National Team. The midfielder was instrumental in the Union’s run to their first ever Supporters’ Shield, has been called up ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers where the teammates will face one another.
Monteiro joins the Cape Verde National Team for the final two matches in the group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations 2021. Cape Verde will play their fifth and six qualifying matches on March 26 vs. Cameroon and will then face Mozambique on March 30. Monteiro was most recently called up for the second round of qualifiers of the tournament last November. The team played Rwanda twice, both matches ending in a 0-0 draw. Monteiro has earned nine caps for Cape Verde, eight in Africa Cup of Nations qualification matches and one International Friendly.
Monteiro departed from Clearwater, Florida on March 21.
