Philadelphia Union announced today that Jose Martinez has received an international call-up for Venezuela ahead of 2022 World Cup Qualifier matches. The midfielder is part of seven call-ups in October which include , , and . These call ups come in addition to Paxten Aaronson, Jack McGlynn and Quinn Sullivan receiving call ups to the U-20 USMNT training camp in Celaya, Mexico where they will compete in the Revelations Cup in preparation for the 2022 Concacaf U-20 Championship.
Martinez was called up by the Venezuelan National Team after a standout three-game run with the team in October for the World Cup Qualifiers. Martinez, who has a total of 11 caps for La Vinotinto, played in all three matches for Venezuela in the tournament. He also notched his first assist for the national team in a 1-1 draw against Ecuador on June 20. Martinez who made his debut for the team in a World Cup qualifier match on June 3, 2021, against Bolivia, will join them again for their matches vs. Ecuador (Nov. 11, 4:00 p.m.) and Peru (Nov. 16, 6:00 p.m.).
