Philadelphia Union announced today that Jose Martinez has received an international call-up for Venezuela ahead of the upcoming FIFA international window. The midfielder is part of seven call-ups in March which include , , and . These call ups come in addition to Brandan Craig, Jack McGlynn and Quinn Sullivan receiving call ups to the U-20 USMNT training camp in Marbella, Spain where they will face off against France, England and Serbia. Goalkeeper Andre Blake has been named to the Jamaican National Team, but will not travel due to injury. All Union players following the Union’s away match against CF Montreal.
Martinez joins the Venezuelan National Team for an international friendly match. Martinez, who has a total of 20 caps for La Vinotinto, recorded his first assist for the national team in a 1-1 draw against Ecuador on June 20, 2021. In his most recent call up, Martinez featured in two international friendly matches against Iceland (Sep. 22, 2022) and United Arab Emirates (Sep. 27, 2022), where he registered one assist. Venezuela will play friendlies against Saudi Arabia (Mar. 24, 3:00 p.m.) and Uzbekistan (Mar. 28, 2:00 p.m.).
