16-year-old Kellan LeBlanc is the latest Philadelphia Union Academy product to earn MLS Next Pro honors.
On Monday, the young midfielder was recognized as the league’s Rising Star of Matchweek 23 after an impressive two-goal performance on Sunday against Toronto FC II.
The match marked his first-ever pro start with Union II, and he took advantage of the opportunity, scoring a brace that led the team’s comeback attempt. Union II was down 2-0 early, but his goals equalized the score, though the team ultimately ended up falling 4-2.
Despite the final result, his finishes helped keep Union II in the match and made for a memorable night for the budding academy player.LeBlanc and Union II will be back on the pitch on Monday, August 26th, hosting Columbus Crew 2 at Subaru Park.
