Philadelphia Union return to action this Saturday when they host San Jose Earthquakes at Talen Energy Stadium. Kick-off for this inter-conference clash is set for 7 p.m. and will be televised on PHL17 with Dave Leno and Tommy Smyth on the call.
The Union enter this match with an even record of 1-1-1 in 2018. The club is coming off a 3-0 defeat in Colorado last week against the Rapids. This will be the first and only matchup of the year between Philadelphia and San Jose as the all-time record between the two sits at 3-4-3 in favor of San Jose.
A key for Philadelphia to leave this weekend with three points is for the club to continue their home form. Since May 6, 2017, the Union own a record of 11-2-2 at Talen Energy Stadium. That win total is second most in all of MLS during that stretch. Much to that success has to do with their man in net Andre Blake who has recorded seven shutouts in that stretch.
The Union will also look to lean on their big man in net Blake. The Captain for the Reggae Boyz is second in MLS in fewest goals allowed by a goalkeeper who has made a minimum of three starts this season. Blake is also tied as the league leader in shutouts with two this season.
For the visiting Earthquakes, they’ll come to the east coast with a record of 1-2-0. The Quakes will look to their Captain and San Jose mainstay Chris Wondolowski. Wondo has had a sensational MLS career recording 135 MLS regular-season goals which ranks second all-time trailing only Landon Donovan.
Fans can see this matchup between Wondolowski and the 2016 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Blake this Saturday at Talen Energy Stadium, or tune into PHL17.
