The 2025 Major League Soccer schedule is set, and as is custom, Philadelphia Union will host 17 of their 34 regular season matches at Subaru Park. While every matchday on the riverfront is one to circle on the calendar, here are five must-see home Union matchups to catch in Chester throughout the year to come.
The team's first home matchup of the season is always an eagerly awaited one, but to add to the excitement, FC Cincinnati is booked as Philly's first visitor. On Saturday, March 1st, the Boys in Blue will host the competitive Eastern Conference foe to open their home schedule.
As of late, battles against the Ohio side led by former Philly assistant Pat Noonan have been fueled by a certain fire, and in 2024, that unfolded into two 6+ goal barnburners and a Decision Day battle.
For the first time in club history, Philadelphia Union will take on St. Louis CITY FC. On March 22nd, the team will kick off their Western Conference schedule at home against one of the leagues newest teams.
St. Louis was established in 2019 as an expansion team, but they didn't play their inaugural season until 2023. That year, St. Louis boasted a fairytale regular season that saw them finish first in the West. They didn't have the same fortune in 2024, however, finishing near the bottom of their conference in 12th.
Similarly to the Union, they'll enter the new year with a new coach. Former Swedish National Team captain Olof Melberg signed on with the club at the end of November, and the matchup will be one of his earliest away outings at the helm.
LA Galaxy are one of three Western conference teams scheduled to make the trip to Subaru Park in 2025, and their journey comes on the heels of a 2024 season that culminated in their sixth MLS Cup title victory.
Their campaign was led, in part, by 25-year-old star midfielder Riqui Puig, but after suffering an unfortunate ACL tear in his team's Western Conference Final against Seattle Sounders, it's unlikely he'll be healthy in time to play at Subaru Park this spring. Even in his absence, the team still has a handful of high-powered attackers, including Designated Player Gabriel Pec, who earned the leagues 2024 MLS Newcomer of the Year award.
When Lionel Messi's name is mentioned, madness ensues, as was the case last time the Argentinian superstar visited Subaru Park for Leagues Cup in August 2023.
After a dominant Supporters’ Shield-winning regular season that earned Messi league MVP honors, Inter Miami was forced out of the title race earlier than many anticipated, falling to Atlanta United in an intense best-of-three battle in the 2024 playoffs.
In 2025, the team's top stars in Messi, Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets are set to return, but this year, they'll led by newly hired Argentine head coach Javier Mascherano, who formerly played alongside the four at FC Barcelona.
It's been since years since New York Red Bulls beat the Philadelphia Union, and the Boys and Blue look to keep it that way in 2025. On July 12th, Philly's rivals from New Jersey will take a trip down I-95 for another can't-miss clash.
New York Red Bulls haven't gotten the best of Philadelphia since September 23rd, 2019. By the time they meet again, it will have been 2,119 days.
With a 2-0 win and a 0-0 draw in 2024, Philadelphia made it through the season unscathed and without having allowed a single Red Bull goal, but many Eastern Conference teams can't say the same. The side led by Sandro Schwarz clawed their way to the MLS Cup Final despite finishing 7th in the East, but ultimately, they fell 2-1 to the six-time champs. With a chip on their shoulder and an undying desire to beat Philly at long last, the rivalry is set to renew in a big way in 2025.
