Philadelphia Union announced today that Jamiro Monteiro has received an international call-up for Cape Verde ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. The midfielder is one of two players from the Union that will participate in the tournament that kicks off on January 9th in Cameroon with defender Olivier Mbaizo playing for the hosts.
Monteiro joins Cape Verde National Team most recently was called up in October as he helped the nation secure their spot in the tournament. Monteiro has earned 16 caps for Cape Verde, sox in World Cup qualifiers as well as nine in Africa Cup of Nations qualification matches and one in an International Friendly. Cape Verde will open the tournament against Ethiopia on January 9th. Group A play continues on January 13th against Burkina Faso before concluding against the hosts, Cameroon, on January 17th.
