Philadelphia Union Foundation To Host Fifth Annual River Cup On Sept. 19

River Cup 5

The fifth annual River Cup will be played Saturday, Sept. 19 at 11:30 a.m. at PPL Park, the Philadelphia Union announced today. The annual friendly match features Union front office members against the Sons of Bens, the official supporters group of the Philadelphia Union. And for the second consecutive year, the Delaware River Craft Brewfest will begin after the conclusion of the match at 3 p.m. Tickets for both events are available for purchase at online or at the PPL Park Box Office.

"We’re excited to continue this great tradition with the Sons of Ben,” Union CEO and Operating Partner Nick Sakiewicz said. “We always have been, and always will be deeply committed to our community. This event is about so much more than soccer. Our club and supporters are relentless in doing everything we can to support our community. It’s really a great opportunity for these two organizations to come together on the pitch while benefitting what our foundation stands for.”

Proceeds of the event will benefit the Philadelphia Union Foundation. PUF provides opportunities for children through the power of relationships to offer transformational change in the areas of education, community, health and recreation.

“We can’t think of a better way to raise money for our community than to partner with the best supporters group in MLS, the Sons of Ben,” Rick Jacobs, Executive Director of the Philadelphia Union Foundation, said. “Both of our organizations are committed to the good work that needs to be done in Chester and we look forward to coming together in the spirit of friendly competition at PPL Park.”

“The River Cup is a great event that raises money for the Philadelphia Union Foundation,” Sons of Ben President Kenny Hanson said. “We’re honored to be involved in an event that increases the opportunities for the youth of Chester.”

The Delaware River Craft Brewfest includes live music and entertainment, gourmet food options, and a variety of vendors, including over 100 breweries. It’s a sampling of the best crafts, imports and ciders from the United States and around the world including: Victory, Troegs, Anchor, Rogue, Full Sail, Evolution, Starr Hill, Long Trail, Goose Island, Fordham & Dominion, Magic Hat and many more.

Tickets start at just $35 and are available online or by phone at 1-877-21-UNION or in person at the PPL Park box office. Designated Driver Tickets are also available for $10. All ticket purchasers must be 21 years or older to attend and must present a valid photo ID at the gate.
