Philadelphia Union Sign Forward Mikael Uhre As Designated Player

CHESTER, Pa. (January 27, 2022) – Philadelphia Union announced today that they have signed forward Mikael Uhre from Brøndby IF to a three-year Designated Player contract with an option for a fourth year in exchange for an undisclosed transfer fee. Uhre, the Golden Boot winner in the Danish Superliga, will be added to the Union’s active roster following receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P1 Visa and will occupy an international roster slot.

“We have been following Mikael for some time as he has developed and risen through the Danish Superliga, and we are excited to complete this deal to bring him to the Union,” said Ernst Tanner, Philadelphia Union Sporting Director. “We are always looking for ways to improve the quality of our roster and we believe Mikael, having become a top player in Denmark, is a good fit for our system and will be an integral piece in our continued growth as a club. We are looking forward to welcoming him as we build on the success of last year and turn our attention to the 2022 season.”

Uhre comes to Philadelphia from the Danish Superliga, Denmark’s First Tier League, where he played for Brøndby IF, the reigning Danish Superliga Champions. Last season, Uhre scored 21 goals and recorded six assists in 34 appearances (34 starts), including 13 goals in 22 league games which earned him the Danish Superliga Golden Boot and the Danish Superliga Player of the Season. This season Uhre has scored 14 goals across 26 appearances (24 starts). His 11 goals in 16 league games leads the league in goals.

Prior to signing with Brøndby IF in 2018, Uhre played for first-tier club SønderjyskE in 2013, before being loaned to second division side Skive in 2014. In 2016, Uhre returned to SønderjyskE before making a move to Brøndby IF, where he made his debut on July 16, 2018.

Internationally, the 27-year-old earned his first senior call up for the Denmark Men’s National Team in November of last year ahead of a pair of World Cup qualifier matches, where he made his debut in a 2-0 loss against Scotland on November 15, 2021.
